PR 5 Link Exchange
A PR5 link exchange essentially means a link exchange for websites that have a popularity of 5 based on Google's PageRank. PageRank is an algorithm that analyzes links that are then assigned a numerical weight to every component of a linked documents' set, such as those contained in the Internet, with purposes of “calculating” its importance in relation to its set. PageRank can be use for any groups of entities that have reciprocal references and quotations. The numerical weights assigned to any component E is known as the PageRank of E and then denoted as PR(E). APR5 link exchange is then known to have a component of 5, known as having PageRank of 5 and written as PR5.
PageRank Development
Larry Page (hence the term PageRank) developed PageRank at the Stanford University. It was later continued on by Sergey Brin as a research project on a new type of search engine. The PageRank project was started around 1995, and in 1998 led to its first functioning prototype, Google. Shortly thereafter, Brin and Page created Google Inc., the company responsible for the search engine Google. While just part of the many other factors that measure how a particular result would rank in Google, PageRank is still used as a basis for Google's web searching tools. PageRank as a name is trademarked by Google but the process itself has been patented by Stanford University.
Assigned Values
Google works by assigning a numeric weight from 0 to 10 for each web page available in the Internet. This particular numeric weight, this PageRank, states how important your web site is as deemed by Google. The scale used for PageRank is logarithmic in nature, just like the Richter Scale, and is roughly based on the number of inbound links and the importance of the web pages providing a particular link. Following the scale, a PR10 link exchange then will give you link exchanges between very popular web sites while a PR5 link exchange gives you link exchanges between web sites with average popularity.
New Websites are at a disadvantage
One drawback that the PageRank has is that it is advantageous for older web pages because newer web pages, because they are new, have the tendency not to have as much links as an older web page –unless of course a particular web page is already affiliated or part of an existing web site. Otherwise, new web pages, no matter how good, stand to be snubbed by PageRank in its initial stages.
